The 1870 census of Robertson County, Kentucky shows Roena Tucker Phillips
[the mother of Sarah Jane Phillips Mckenzie & Margaret Elizabeth Phillips Mckenzie] keeping house for
Thomas Brierly in Family No. 54. Thomas Brierly is listed as age 85.
In a suit filed in 1872, Roena states that Thomas Brierly promised her and her family
his property for their care of him during his illness and old age.
Thomas Brierly's brother contended that his brother has promised his land to
him if he built a house on one corner of the property. The brother had done
so and was objecting to the land being given to the Phillipses.
The Phillips family won the lawsuit and took title to the land,
so the house may had been built by his brother
