POLICE PROBE SLAYING
Man Found Dead in Council St. House: Coroner Rules Homicide Police Saturday were continuing their investigation in the death of a 44 year old man and the shooting of a bar patron.
Dr. Robert E. Zipf, county coroner, ruled as "homicide" the death of Roy Greer, home-at-large (no permanent residence). He said Greer bled internally from wounds.
The coroner said Greer was hit by a blunt object, possibly a fist and fixed time of death as 2:15 p. m. Friday. Greer was found in a rooming house at 17 Council St. where a drinking party apparently took place.
POLICE Saturday were to question a seventh man in connection with Greer's death. He was picked up Friday night and is being held as a material witness. Six other men were arrested Friday and booked on drunkenness and investigatoin of possible homocide.
According to Dt. Ralph Hogan the witness told an Officer Greer was attacked by two men. One man smashed Greer in the face and the other stomped on him with his foot, according to the witness, Hogan said. The witness' name was not disclosed.
Arested were: Kyle Bruce Cradic, 32, of 111 S. Robert blvd.; William J. Waltz, 44, home-at-large; Courtland Titsworth, 58 of 17 Counsell St; Charles Glinter, Jr. 25 of 445 Maple St.; George Melvin Johnson, 40, of 567 W. Fourth St.; and Clyde Forrest Green, 32, of 2515 W. Third St.

SIX-MEN HELD IN DEATH OF 44-YEAR-OLD
Six men were held for investigation of murder yesterday after police found them keeping drunken company with a dead mean in a filth-strewn room at 17 Council Street.
The victim was identified as Roy Greer, 44, home-at-large. His death was due indirctly to a terrific blow which fractured several small bones in his face.
Dr. Robert E. Zipf, County Coroner, said the man officially died from swallowing his own blood.
Greer's body was found about 2:35 p.m. In the room at the time were: Kyle Bruce Cradid, 32, of 111 South Robert Boulevard; William Jacob Waitz, 44, home-at-large; Courtland Tittsworth, 58, of 17 Council Street; Charles Ginter, Jr, 25, of 445 Maple Street; Goerge Melvin Johnson, 40, of 567 West Fourth Street, and Clyde Forrest Green, 32, of 2515 West Third Street.
The six also were booked on intoxication charges. Last night police said a seventh man has been arrested as a material witness, but asked that his name be withheld.

POLICE HOLD 2 IN PROBE OF FATAL BEATING

Two witnesses yesterday told police a "bully" and his companion were responsible for the fatal beating of a 44-year-old man during a drinking party in a rooming house at 17 Council St.
Det. Ralph Hogan said he would confer with the County Prosecutor's office tomorrow on charge to be filed against the two.
Dead on arrival at Miami Valley hospital around 3 p.m. Friday was Roy Greer, home-at-large. Dr. Robert E. Zipf, Montgomery County Coroner who ruled "homicide"," said Greer choked to death on blood from hemorrhaging face injuries.
Held by police are William Jacob Waltz, 44, home-at-large, and Charles Ginter Jr., 25, of 445 Maple St. Police said both are unemployed railroad section hands.
Hogan said witnesses told him the six-foot, 225-pound Ginter and Waltz were arguing when Greer stepped in and tried to break it up.
Witnesses said Waltz smashed the intruder in the stomach knocking him unconscious, and then Ginter stomped on Greer's face with his feet. Hogan described Greer as "short and thin."
Four other men, who were present at the time, were charged with drunkenness yesterday, Hogan said. The are Kyle Bruce Cradic, 32, of 111 S. Rober Blvd.; Courtland Tittsworth, 58, of 17 Council St.; George Melvin Johnson, 40, of 567 W. Fourth St., and Clyde Forrest Green, 32, of 2515 W. Third St.

CHARGES FILED IN SLAYING

A second degree murder charge was filed Monday with the Montgomery County Prosecutor's office against a 25-year-old unemployed railroad section hand.
Charles Ginter Jr., home-at-large, is accused of beating to death Roy Greer, 44, home-at-large, during a drinking party Friday at 17 Council St. The affidavit is signed by Det. Sgt. Jack Smith.

Charles Ginter was arraigned in open Court on 16 March 1954 at 2 pm. He was remanded to the custody of the Sheriff of Montgomery County, Ohio and the Court fixed his bond at $5000.00.

THE GRAND JURORS of the County of Montgomery, in the name, and by authority of the State of Ohio, on their oaths do present and find that Charles Ginter, Jr. on or about the Fifth day of March in the year one thousand nine hundred and Fifty-four, in the County of Montgomery, aforesaid, and State of Ohio, purposely and maliciously killed Roy Greer; contrary to the form of the statute in such case made and provided, and against the peace and dignity of the State of Ohio.

On this 10th day of May, 1954, the defendant, Charles Ginter, Jr., appeared before the Court and withdrew his former plea of not guilty to the charge of Murder, 2nd Degree, as he stands charged in the indictment, and with leave of the Court, entered a plea of guilty to the lesser and included offense of Manslaughter, 1st Degree, which plea was accepted by the Court.
Whereupon, the Court inquired of the defendant wheter he had anything to say why the judgment and sentence of the Court should not be pronounced against him, and the defendant showing no cause why the judgment and sentence of the Court should not be pronounced against him, it is the sentence of the Court that the defendant, Charles Ginter, Jr., be imprisoned in the Ohio State Reformatory for a period of not less than one (1) year nor more than twenty (20) years, and pay the costs of prosecution taxed at $40.59 Dollars.
Defendant sentenced under Section 2901.06 of the Revised Code of Ohio.
