Lewis County, the forty-eighth county in order of formation, is located in northeastern Kentucky along the Ohio River. The County is bordered by Adams County, OH (north), Scioto County, OH (northeast), Greenup County (east), Carter County (southeast), Rowan County (south), Fleming County (southwest), Mason County (west). Cities, Towns and Communities include Concord, Vanceburg, Tollesboro, Cabin Creek, Garrison, Ribolt. Lewis County was formed from a portion of Mason County on December 2, 1806, and named in honor of explorer Merriweather Lewis. As of 2000, the population of Lewis County was 14,092. The county seat is Vanceburg. Vanceburg was founded in 1797 and named after Joseph Vance. It became the county seat in 1863.
