John Wiley is the son of Erasmus Bedwell and Lety Adams. They were married Aug 12, 1852 in Letcher Co. and had for sure four children, Jenny John Wiley, Nelson and Nancy. There was perhaps a fifth, Lynda. By Feb 4 1866 Erasmus and Letty had split up and because on that day Erasmus married his second wife, Sarah Caudill. They had for sure five and maybe as many as seven children. Letty Adams had at least four more. Her Bedwell children, Jenny, John Wiley, Nelson, Nancy and Lynda used Adams as a surname but each is also recorded in at least one place as using Bedwell. I think they used Bedwell "Officially" ----for mariages, deeds and sometimes the census taker and Adams informally. All of the children, Erasmus' grandchildren, by the grandsons went by Adams and at this point the surname of Erasmus descendants by Letty is Adams. His descendants by Sarah are still Bedwells. Nancy Jane is the daughter of William Cornett
and his
second wife Rebecca Morgan.
