From: "William G Scroggins" To: Subject: RE:Obits_Kenton_Co_KY Date: Thursday, July 05, 2001 4:46 AM [Kentucky Post, 19 Jun 1911, page 3]: EDWARD JOHNSON, PROMINENT BANKER, DIED YESTERDAY Edward Borden Johnson, one of the pioneers in banking circles in and about Covington and Cincinnati, died early yesterday morning at his home, 68 East Eighth st., in Covington, of pneumonia. Johnson, who was more familiarly known as "Daddy" by his friends, came to Cincinnati in 1849 and started work in one of the banks as a messenger. From that position he worked himself up through the various positions until he had charge of the securities of the First National Bank. He was connected with the money market for over 53 years and made thousands of friends in that time. He was ill for a period of a little over a week. The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon from the residence and his body will be interred in Spring Grove Cemetery. Johnson is survived by a widow and one son. The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon. Johnson started as a messenger for the Lafayette Bank. He retired when the Lafayette was consolidated with the First National Bank.
