Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 7th ed., 1887, Kenton Co. JOHN N. FURBER was born February 28, 1813, at Northwood, N. H. He was a son of Joshua and Alcey (Neally) Furber, a descendant of William Furber, who came over from England in 1635, in the ship "Angel Gabriel", which was wrecked at Pemaquid, now Bristol., Me., in the great hurricane. John N. Furber came to Kentucky in 1837, settling at Minerva, in Mason County, where for several years he taught a private school. In 1840 he removed to Brooksville, in Bracken County, where he was admitted to the bar as attorney at law. In 1845 he married Margaret A. L., daughter of Andrew Linn. She died in 1849, leaving him a son, Neally L. Furber. In 1857 he married Martha M., daughter of John and Beulah Maria (Lee) Smith, of Salem, N. H. In 1865 he moved to Covington, and soon obtained a high rank as an attorney and member of the Kenton County bar. He was a member of the National Democratic Conventions of 1844 and 1868, and a member of the House of Representatives of Kentucky in 1869-70. He was at the time of his death, and for several years had been, a member of the Covington school board. He died July 21, 1878, of apoplexy, leaving a widow and four children: Neally L. Furber, Charles S. Furber, Anna M. L. Furber and Martha L. Furber. Neally L. Furber was born February 14, 1848; married Margaret A. Gull, of Clermont County, Ohio and died July 23, 1887, leaving four children. Charles S. Furber was born at Brooksville, Ky., March 4, 1860. He is a rising attorney, practicing both in Covington and Cincinnati. He is a graduate of the Covington High School (class of 1878) and of the Cincinnati Law School (class of 1883). He is a deacon of the Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church. Dr. Anna M. L. Furber was born June 4, 1861, at Brooksville, Ky. She was a graduate of the Covington High School (class of 1880) and of the Boston University of Medicine in 1885. She has been highly successful in her practice, and is a member of the medical staff of the Ohio Homoeopathic Hospital for women and children. Martha L. Furber was also born in Brooksville, Ky., January 9, 1863, and graduated at the Covington High School in 1883. She is an artist of merit, and is making a specialty of fine crayon portrait work.
