Contact David R. Smith for further details.

In 1991 the Knott County Gingerbread Festival Committee began designating a particular family to be honored during September's Festival. The manner in which these families are selected by the Gingerbread Committee is procured through the use of the local phone directory with the families having the most phone numbers receiving plurality.   The Gingerbread Festival Committee releases the name of the family to be honored and the theme for the year's festival in the local paper so that the businesses and organizations, such as ours, can corroborate their window displays and exhibits.

One year after the Historical Society's founding, we began honoring these families with a proof publication of the family's history containing up-to-date data, a museum exhibit, photo albums, window displays on Main Street, and other events to coincide with the Knott County Gingerbread Festival activities.  We have worked harmoniously with the Gingerbread Festival and these families to bring honor upon their ancestors since 1995.
