James A. Pack

    Mr. and Mrs. James Pack have received word from their son, Pfc. James A, Pack, Jr. that he was wounded on Peleiu Island, October 3, According to Pfc. Pack he has been evacuated from that island to a hospital and is getting along fine, expecting to return to duty soon. The Purple heart has been awarded this young man and he writes that he is sending it home to his parents.

    A comrade of Pfc. Pack, Ruford Witten, of Paintsville, had previously written the Packs that their son had been wounded but as yet no message has been received by them form the War Department.

    Pfc. Pack has been in the Marines since December 5, 1942 and has served in the Pacific for the past thirteen months.

    He completed his basic training and also a school in Motor Transport with high honors in San Diego California. At the time he was wounded, he was still serving in the motor transport.
