St. John's (St. Mary's) Catholic Cemetery

St. John's (formerly St. Mary's) Catholic Cemetery, 26th & Duncan Streets, Louisville, Kentucky

The first burial at St. Mary's took place in 1851. The Sisters of Charity of Nazareth deeded nine acres at 26th and Duncan to the Diocese of Louisville. It was often referred to as the German Catholic Cemetery near Portland and the name was changed to St. John's sometime after 1869. This cemetery today (2002) is in very poor condition and has been often vandalized. Not all records of burials are available.
