Please email your coordinators if you have any questions regarding this cemetery.  This cemetery was another one in a series of works transcribed by Alan Murray, who has his own website at Jefferson County, Kentucky Cemeteries.  This particular cemetery is a very huge undertaking when trying to transcribe due to it's large size and the enormous number of burials.  The last time your coordinator was at the Louisville Free Public Library, it was noticed they housed an older set of books detailing the burials of Eastern.  It took four volumes just to catalog the burials, and it was not even a recent edition of that series.  It cannot be understated how appreciated this work is to the families who have loved ones buried here.  A million thanks to Alan for his passion.

Eastern Cemetery has had many problems in the past. Previous administrations have actually buried several people in the same grave. When this was discovered, turmoil insued and the cemetery entered into financial difficulties. Due to the financial problems it became impossible to pay for the upkeep of the cemetery. Today the cemetery has fallen under the care of a few dedicated people, who without pay, try to manage its upkeep. Unfortunately, Eastern Cemetery is a large cemetery and more than they can keep up with, and thus, is generally in poor shape. Currently listed is only a small portion of those buried in the cemetery.  I will continue to add to this list as time allows......Alan Murray.
