ISAAC WINGATE was born in Franklin County, Ky., May 21, 1834, and is the youngest son of Isaac and Jane (Sneed) Wingate. I. Wingate, Sr., was born in Delaware, came with his parents to Kentucky when a small boy and settled in Franklin County, and was a stock raiser and farmer all his life. Isaac's paternal grandfather, Smith Wingate, was also born in Delaware. Isaac Wingate was reared in Franklin County and was educated at the common schools; was chief clerk of the Senate of Kentucky one term, and was enrolling clerk of the Senate for ten years. July 1, 1884, he opened a general store at Woodlake, Franklin County, and has been engaged in business ever since; also buys and sells leaf tobacco. Jun 11, 1871, he married Bettie Bailey, of Lancaster, Garrard County, Ky., daughter of W. C. and Desdemona Bailey, and is now the father of three children--Desdemona, Isaac, Jr., and Ella H. Mr. Wingate is a member of the Baptist Church, while his wife is a Presbyterian; he is also a Knight Templar, and has passed all the chairs in the Blue Lodge and commandery. He has 230 acres, and gives much attention to the breeding of trotters and general stock.
