Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Woodford Co. JOHN M. WASSON, a native of Bourbon County, Ky., was born July 15, 1824, and is the second son and fifth child of Joseph and Sarah (Hearne) Wasson, natives of Pennsylvania and Delaware. He is Scotch on his father's side and English on his mother's. He was reared on the farm until sixteen, when he became a clerk in Leesburg, Ky. In 1845 he engaged in the mercantile business on his own account, and continued until 1859, when he removed to Versailles, Woodford County, and engaged in the dry goods business with J. L. Taylor. In 1863 he engaged in the grocery business with Louis Subblett, and since 1878 he and son (C. E. Wasson) have been engaged in the grocery business at Versailles. July 30, 1845, he married Mary F. Holton, of Bracken County, Ky., and had born to him seven children, of whom five are living: Charles E., Louella, D. Edgar, Dell Eva and Claude A. He, his wife and children are members of the Christian Church.
