Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Woodford Co. WARREN VILEY was born in Scott County, Ky., August 3, 1817, and is a son of Willa and Lydia (Smith) Viley. The father was a native of Maryland, and the mother of Scott County, Ky., and both were of Scotch-English origin. Warren Viley was reared on his father's farm, and educated at the common schools of his neighborhood until his seventeenth year, when he entered the Georgetown College. After leaving the latter he moved to Woodford County in 1838, and in 1853 purchased the farm on which he now resides about half way between Midway and Versailles, immediately on the turnpike. His place is known as Stonewall, and is recognized as one of the most beautiful and fertile farms in the State. He was married, in 1837, to Miss Catherine J. Martin, daughter of William H. and Susan (Hale) Martin, of Scott County, and natives of Virginia. He was always engaged in farming and rearing thoroughbred and other fine stock, and has owned some of the most celebrated strains of racers known in the State. Mrs. Viley died March 29, 1886, leaving three children: Nettie (Witherspoon), Breckinridge and Mary. Mr. Viley is a member of the Baptist Church, and of the F. & A. M.
