Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Woodford Co. ANDREW F. STEELE, a native of Gainesville, Ala., was born December 10, 1844, and is a son of Judge W. J. and Mary B. (Winston) Steele, natives of Woodford County, Ky., and Sumter County, Ala. Andrew F. Steele's paternal grandfather, John Steele, was a native of Ireland. Andrew F. Steele was reared in his native county until 1852. In 1862 he joined Gen. John Morgan, and was captured in July, 1863. He was subsequently department county clerk under D. P. Robb for over one year, ending in 1865, and opened the livery business in 1876 with Thomas Fowler, but Mr. Fowler went out in 1878.
