Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Woodford Co. A. J. SLACK was born in Louisville June 13, 1853, and is the youngest son of J. T. and Sarah (Waller) Slack. The father was born in Bullitt County, Ky., in June, 1819; removed to Louisville when it was but a small place, and was engaged in the coal trade for several years. In 1856 he removed to Union County, and for seventeen years was engaged in farming and stock raising. He then made a visit to Texas with his son A. J., but eventually returned to Louisville where he now resides. In 1875 A. J. Slack went into the coal business with his father in Louisvile, but six years later sold out and purchased his present farm of 252 acres three miles west of Midway, Woodford County, where he is now engaged in farming and stock raising. He married, September 3, 1879, Miss Annie, daughter of John and Mary (Shively) Swindler, natives of Louisville. To this marriage were born three children: Camilla W., Mary and John T. Mr. Slack's paternal grandfather was a cabinet-maker and farmer, and was named Joseph. His maternal grandfather was named Dempsy Waller. Mrs. Annie Slack is a member of the Methodist Church South.
