Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Woodford Co. N. B. RISK is the eldest son of W. B. and Nancy J. (Crosby) Risk, and was born January 22, 1833. W. B. Risk, a son of John Risk, of Virginia, was born in Fayette County, Ky., August 22, 1799; was a farmer and trader, and also a miller; died in September, 1882. N. B. Risk was born in Woodford County, and was partially educated at Georgetown (Ky.) College. In 1854 he commenced teaching in Franklin County, remaining four years; then taught two and a half years in Scott County, then two years in Woodford County, next, in 1869, he went to Georgetown and started the public school with thirty pupils, which number he increased to 195, continuing two and one- half years and filling the position of principal the whole time. He then passed two years on his father's farm in Franklin County; he next went to Oxford, Scott County, one year, and thence to Versailles, where he was principal of the academy one year; then to Jessamine County; was elected county surveyor and held the office six years, teaching in the meanwhile; thence to Clark County, where he taught two years. In 1885 he opened a general store at Ducker's Station, Woodford County, which he still continues. In January, 1872, he married Miss Kate Risk, of Scott County, who born him one child, William J. Mrs. Kate Risk died in 1875, a member of the Christian Church. Mr. Risk is a Baptist, a Royal Arch Mason and a member of the I.O.O.F. He owns a farm of ninety acres in Forks of Elkhorn Precinct, Franklin County, and devotes his attention to his store and farming.
