Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Woodford Co. THOMAS J. NOOE was born August 5, 1840, and is the second son of Nimrod and Lucy (Garnett) Nooe. Nimrod Nooe was born in Virginia in 1808, came to Kentucky with his parents, and settled in Bourbon County at an early day. He was a brick mason and contractor, and worked a large number of hands. He was also engaged in farming, and died in 1877. Mrs. Lucy Nooe was a native Kentuckian. Thomas J. Nooe was born and reared on a farm in Jessamine County. In 1860-61 he taught two terms of school of six months each. He clerked a year, and in 1867 moved to Mattoon, Coles Co., Ill, where he opened a large grocery store. In 1873 he sold his grocery, and for two years was in the boot and shoe trade. He then returned to Jessamine County, Ky., and farmed until 1879, when he moved to Woodford County, and in 1880 was elected justice of the peace, which office he still holds. March 25, 1873, he married Miss Nannie B., daughter of Stephen and Rosa (Hudgins) Lillard, and to this union were born two children: Lillard and Rosa L. Mrs. Nannie B. Nooe died May 31, 1886, a strict member of the Christian Church, of which church Mr. Nooe is also a member. In addition to performing the duties of his office Mr. Nooe is also engaged in farming 100 acres of land.
