Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Woodford Co. J. WALLACE HARPER, eldest son of William and Rebecca (Wallace) Harper, was born February 29, 1816. William Harper was born in Virginia, December 25, 1767, was a saddler by trade, came to Kentucky in 1797 and settled on the farm now owned by his son, J. Wallace Harper, in Woodford County, where J. Wallace Harper was born. William Harper was of German descent, and his wife, Rebecca, of Scotch-Irish descent. July 21, 1840, J. Wallace Harper married Miss Elizabeth, daughter of William D. and Ann L. (Whitley) Harper, and to this union one child was born, William, who died November 29, 1867. Mrs. Elizabeth Harper died February 19, 1857, and on October 29, 1861, Mr. Harper married Adelia H., daughter of Walter C. and Desdemona (Nichols) Bailey, and to this union was also born one child, Walter B., December 14, 1865. Mr. Harper is the owner of 235 acres in Midway Precinct, two miles southwest of Midway, and has devoted considerable attention to the rearing of thoroughbred trotting horses, among which were Altie, with a speed of 2:23 1/4 to the mile; Rachel, 2:25 1/4; Almo, 2:28. Mr. Harper is a Free Mason, belonging to the Master's Lodge at Midway, and the chapter and encampment at Versailles; with his wife and son he is also a member of the Presbyterian Church.
