FORD, a native of Woodford County, born February 18, 1807, is the fourth son of Absalom and Mary (Ransdall) Ford, natives of Culpeper County, Va., and of English descent. His maternal grandfather, John Ransdall, was also a native of Virginia. Absalom Ford came to Kentucky in 1792, and was at first overseer for the father of John J. Crittenden, near Versailles. He later bought near the farm where James P. Ford now lives. He died in 1840, his wife having died in 1831. They had a family of thirteen children, all of whom survive them. James P. Ford, in 1837, married Miss Eliza J., daughter of Vinson Rust, of Virginia. This lady died in 1843, and in 1845 Mr. Ford married Elizabeth E., daughter of Thomas Harper, both natives of Woodford County. To this union have been born: Mariah, married to William H. Sellers; Thomas J.; Mary Alice; James W., born in 1856, Elizabeth, and Charles, born in 1867. In 1865 Mr. Ford was elected a member of the Legislature, was re-elected in 1869, and has also been elected magistrate on the Democratic ticket.
