Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Woodford Co. GEORGE EDWARDS, third son of Wiley and Nancy (Sullenger) Edwards, was born February 27, 1822. His father, Wiley Edwards, son of John Edwards, was born in Virginia, in August, 1787, and was brought to Kentucky the same year by his parents, who settled in Woodford County; he was a wagon-maker by trade, but owned and operated a distillery in Woodford County from 1828 until 1847, in which latter year he died, September 11. Mrs. Nancy Edwards was born in Woodford County, and died in March, 1872. George Edwards was reared on the home farm in Woodford County, where he was born and educated at the common schools. In 1863 he was elected justice of the peace and served five terms of four years each; was road overseer two years; school trustee several terms. He owns 153 acres in Millville Precinct, and has always been a farmer and stock raiser. He married, March 2, 1843, Miss Elizabeth F., daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth (Sweatnam) Jett, of Franklin County, and had born to him twelve children, of whom six are living: Thos. W., who married Atta Darnell; Mary E., who attended Henry College in Newcastle [sic], Ky., also St. Mary's Academy at Frankfort, and who is a member of the Baptist Church; Anna E., who graduated from the Excelsior Institute, Franklin County, and is a member of the Methodist Church South; G. Hiram, who attended college at Versailles, took a course of medical lectures at Louisville in 1877-78, and a course at Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, in 1880-81, graduated in March of the latter year, and located at Bunceton, Mo., where he is the leading physician and has a large practice; Jennie L. and L. Jett, who attended Excelsior Institute, Franklin County, the former a member of the Christian Church.
