ARNOLD was born August 14, 1823, the eldest son of Wyatt and Sarah (Rice) Arnold, natives of Woodford, born on the line of Jessamine and Woodford; Sarah was a daughter of John Rice. Wyatt Arnold was born in 1792, was in the Indian war in the early settlement of the Northwest, and died in 1852. There are five children of this family yet living. John W. Arnold is a native of Woodford County, and with the exception of two years, has lived there all his life and farmed. In April, 1845, he married Catherine E. Garrette, a native of Boone County, Ky., she died October, 1886. Seven children were born to this union: Irvin, Calvin G., Leale, John D., Dora, Elizabeth (married to Judson S. Neal, born in 1863, died in October, 1886), and Lula. In 1879 Mr. Arnold was elected magistrate, and still retains the position. He owns a farm of 400 acres, and is a member of the Baptist Church.
