Henry C. Harman was born in Whitley County, Ky., February 10, 1834.  His
parents were Thomas R. and Catharine (Barnett) Harman, natives respectively
of Tennessee and Kentucky.  Our subject is the second in a family of nine
children, viz: Love, Henry C., Pollie, Nancy, Josephine, James, George W.,
Martha C. and Lewis A.  Henry C. Harman was reared on a farm in his native
county, and received his education in the common schools.  He has devoted
the greater part of his time to agricultural pursuits.  In 1875 he turned
his attention to the study of law, and was admitted to the bar in 1880.  In
1870 he was elected county judge, in which capacity he served one term, and
in 1886 was elected county attorney, which position he still holds.
November 22, 1855, he married Obedience Tye, a daughter of William and Nancy
(Hart) Tye, of Whitley County, Ky.  She has borne him nine children, viz:
Catharine, Israel P., Love, William H., Ulysses C., Obedience, Lucinda M.,
Lucy M. and Eliza L.  Mrs. Harman died August 4, 1883, and December 18,
1883, Mr. Harman married Sallie Wilder, a daughter of Jesse and Sallie
(Pruett) Wilder, of Whitley County.  Mrs. Harman is a member of the
Methodist Episcopal Church, and Mr. Harman is a member of the Baptist
Church.  Politically he is a Republican.
