Green A. Denham, attorney-at-law, born in Williamsburgh, February 4, 1852.
His father, Samuel Denham, a native of Pulaski Ky., was born in 1828, was
reared on a farm and educated in the common schools.  In early life he
learned and worked at the tanner's trade at Somerset, and at the outbreak of
the Mexican war he enlisted in the Third Kentucky Volunteer Infantry, and
served until the close of the war.  He then returned to Somerset and served
out his apprenticeship at the tanner's trade, and subsequently removed to
Williamsburgh, where he conducted a tannery for a number of years.  He then
engaged in the mercantile business at Williamsburgh, which he continued
until his death.  About 1853 he was elected county jailer of Whitley County,
and served one term.  His father was Squire Denham, also a native of
Kentucky.  Samuel Denham married in 1850.  Elizabeth L., a daughter of Dr.
Charles Noe, a native of Virginia.  She bore him six children, one daughter
and five sons, viz: Green A., Samuel, William R., an infant, Joseph and Ella
B.  Mrs. Elizabeth L. Denham is still living in Williamsburgh.  Green A.
Denham was reared in Williamsburgh, and in early life attended school at
Richmond, Ky., and also the East Tennessee University at Knoxville, Tenn.
He taught school in Whitley County, as well as in Tennessee and Indiana.
About 1872 he commenced the study of law, and in 1874-75 attended the Law
School at Lexington, Ky., being subsequently admitted to the bar.  He has
since devoted his attention to the practice of his profession.  In 1882 he
was elected county attorney, in which capacity he served one term.  In 1886
he bought the Williamsburgh times, an independent organ of about 1,000
circulation, which he has since edited.  He also, in 1886, made an active
race for Congress from the Eleventh District, on the Democratic ticket.
April 28, 1879, he married Miss Sarah S., daughter of Samuel and Harriet
(Huggins) McCullough, of Ottumwa, Iowa.  Four children have been born to
their union, viz: Harriet E., Samuel, Newton R. and an infant.  Mr. Denham
is a member of the Christian Church, is Master of the F. & A.M. Lodge of
Williamsburgh, and is a Democrat.
