Ramsey, sheriff of Wayne County, Ky., his native county, was born September 2, 1851, a son of Richard and Sarah (Rector) Ramsey. Richard Ramsay, a native of Virginia, was born in 1813, came to Kentucky with his parents and settled in Wayne County, where he engaged in Agricultural pursuits until his death, which occurred February 29, 1870, having been a member of the Baptist Church for many years, and a liberal contributor to all church and charitable organizations. He was a son of John Ramsey, also a native of Virginia. Sarah (Rector) Ramsey, a native of Wayne County, Ky., is a daughter of Samuel and Ruth (Simpson) Rector. George T. Ramsey is the sixth of eight living children, viz: Sarah E., Samuel S., John P., R.S., James E., George T., Isaac G. and Bernette E. George T. Ramsey received his education at the common schools, and was engaged in farming until 1877, when he was elected sheriff, which position he has since retained, except the years 1883-84. October 28, 1880, he married Sarah R. Hardin, a daughter of M.D. and Emily M. (Washan) Hardin. They are the parents of three children, viz: James C., Sarah E. and Mark J., Mrs. Ramsey is a member of the Christian Church. Mr. Rainsey is a Master Mason, and member of the I.O.O.F. and K. of H., and is a Democrat. William McConnaghy is deputy sheriff.
