Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, ed. 8-B, Wayne County J.W. Castillo, M.D., a native of Wayne County, KY, was born November 16, 1842, and is a son of Michael and Melissa (Beason) Castillo. Michael Castillo, a native of Virginia, settled in Wayne County, KY, where he was a carpenter by trade and also engaged in farming. J.W. Castillo is the youngest of five living children, viz: Isaac, Mollie, Lizzie, Joseph and J.W. He received his education at the common schools, and attended school three years at Harrodsburgh, KY. In the summer of 1861 he enlisted in the Confederate army, Company F, Fourth Kentucky Infantry, and was mustered out in May, 1865. After the close of the war he was employed by the day as a farm laborer, and subsequently taught one term of school. He read medicine and attended two full courses of lectures at the medical department of the University of Louisville, where he graduated in 1871. He then located at Monticello, where he has since resided. In 1873, he married Kate Noland, of Clinton County, KY, a daughter of Jesse and Matilda (Kendrick) Noland. Mrs. Castillo died September 26, 1884, a member of the Christian Church. She left two children, Mattie L. and Willie. He was married to Miss Willamette Thomas, Nov. 24, 1887, she being his present wife. Dr. Castillo is a member of the Christian Church, a Master Mason, K. of H., and a Democrat.
