Kentucky: A History of the State, Perrin, Battle, Kniffin, 4th ed., 1887, Washington County. ROBERT B. CURRY dates his birth from May 30, 1826. His grandfather, William Curry, emigrated from Virginia in an early day, and settled on Chaplin River in Mercer County, where he accumulated a large landed estate. He was a successful farmer, and died many years ago. Robert Curry, father of Robert B., was born in Mercer County, about 1781, and was a farmer by occupation. He died in his native county in the year 1857. His wife, Mary (Wilham) Curry, was born in Mercer County, and departed this life about 1830 or 1831. They were the parents of the following children: Mrs. Hannah Whittinghill, William, Edward, Mrs. Sarah Stines, Mrs. Jane Yeast, Martha, Mrs. Artemisia Cunningham, Robert B., James and John Curry. By a subsequent marriage with Miss Artemisia Hill Mr. Curry had a family of nine children. Robert B. Curry, a native of Mercer County, was reared to agricultural pursuits, and grew to manhood on his father's farm, nine miles west of Harrodsburg. He attended the country schools from the age of twelve until his twenty-first year, and acquired a fair English education for that day. He began farming for himself at the age of twenty-two, purchased a tract of land in his native county in 1853, and resided upon the same for a period of fourteen years. At the end of that time he disposed of his place and later purchased a second farm, which was his home until 1871, when he moved to Johnson County, Ind., where he lived for a short time. Returning to Kentucky he bought a farm in the northern part of Washington County, to which he at once removed and upon which he lived until his election to the office of county jailer in 1882, when he disposed of his farm and moved to Springfield, where he has since resided in the discharge of the duties of his office. Mr. Curry was married October 12, 1852, in Mercer County, to Sarah, daughter of Enoch and Frances Thomas, who has born him the following children: Isaac, William, Thomas (deceased), James, Mary F. (wife of "Doc." Cunningham), John (deceased), Sarah E. and George Ann (deceased). Mrs. Curry died November 2, 1865, at the age of thirty-two years. Mr. Curry was next married, November 13, 1870, to Mrs. Icylinda Salle, widow Salle, and daughter of James and Mournen (Ham) Philips, of Madison. By her previous marriage Mrs. Curry has one child--Selena, wife of John Sutton. Mr. Curry belongs to the Masonic fraternity, and since 1858 has been an active of the Christian Church. He is a Democrat in politics, and one of the most efficient jailers the county has ever had.
