WATSON was born in Barbour County, Ala., in 1845, is a son of Isaac and Jane (Spurlock) Watson, and of Scotch origin. His father was a native of North Carolina, and his mother of Putnam County, Ga. The ancestors of Mr. Watson were among the pioneers and early settlers of Alabama. Mr. Watson remained on the farm until his sixteenth year, when he enlisted in Company A, of the First Alabama Volunteers (Confederate), in which he continued one year, and then enlisted in F. H. Robertson's Artillery, with which he remained until the close the war. Mr. Watson was educated at Spring Hill Academy, Alabama. At the close of the war he came to Kentucky and settled in Nelson County, where he was engaged in teaching school. In 1869 he came to Warren County, and continued school teaching for four years. In 1872 he removed to Simpson County, Ky., and there taught one year, and then engaged in farming, which he continued until 1878, when he began railroading, in which he was engaged for six years. In April, 1884, he began his present business in Bowling Green. He married, in 1872, Eliza Fields, a native of Davidson County, Tenn., by whom he has two children: Katie R. and Annie K. Mr. Watson died in 1877. Mr. Watson married, the next year, Mary E. Morris, of Simpson County, Ky. To this marriage has been born one child, James M., Jr. Mr. Watson is a Mason, made such in 1870, and in 1884 he became a member of the I. O. O. F. Mr. Watson has made his own way in life, and has been successful.
