LAWSON was born in Hopkinsville, Christian Co., Ky., January 11, 1844, is the seventh of a family of fourteen children born to F. Y. and Cary A. (Callway) Lawson, and is of Scotch-Irish extraction. F. Y. Lawson was born in Richmond, Ky., in 1808, and died at Russellville, Ky., in 1865. His mother was born in Culpeper County, Va., in 1811. His grandfather was Walter Lawson. D. M. was reared in Hopkinsville, Ky., and attended the public schools of that place. In 1859 he removed to Logan County, near Russellville, Ky., and began farming. This he continued four years, and in 1866 came to Bowling Green, and until 1869 clerked for Isaac Landes, now deceased. In 1869 he bought out his employer, and engaged in business for himself, with B. D. Landes, and continued until 1872, when he retired. In 1875 he resumed the general merchandise business in this city. In 1882 he erected his present business house, which is one of the most complete salesrooms in Bowling Green, and is 110x33 feet. The stock of goods carried by Mr. Lawson consists of an extensive line of dry goods, boots, shoes and clothing. In 1870 he was united in marriage with Mary De Cantillion Ronald, of Louisville, Ky., a daughter of F. S. J. Ronald, born in 1811, in Culpeper County, Va., and Mary Elizabeath Ronald, who was formerly a De Cantillon, of Hyde Park, N. Y. To Mr. and Mrs. Lawson the following children have been born: Frankie May and Cary De Cantillon. Mr. Lawson is an Odd Fellow and a Democrat.
