Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 3rd ed., 1886. Warren County. ALONZO L. JOHNS was born in Texas, in 1842, a son of John and Rosina (Steel) Johns. His paternal grandfather was a physician of high standing and served through the entire war of the Revolution. Alonzo L. lived in Texas for ten years, when his parents died and he was brought to Kentucky by his uncle, and indentured to the Shakers, with whom he remained until grown. After becoming of age, he became a covenant member of the Shakers, and soon after as made head of the North Division of the society and is now superintendent of this division in things both spiritual and temporal.
