JACKSON was born February 26, 1829, six miles east of Bowling Green, and is the fourth of the five sons and three daughters of James D. and Elizabeth (Phelps) Jackson, who were born and reared near Milledgeville, Ga. He was reared on the farm, and for nine months during the war was employed in furnishing supplies from Cincinnati for the Confederate Army; he provided in that time to the amount of $200,000, and also acted as a spy. He has traveled extensively through the West trading in stock. July 27, 1870, he married Lucy D. Easton, of Edmonson County, a daughter of Zach K. and Fannie (Clark) Easton. Z. K. Easton came from Virginia in an early day and settled in Green County, later in Edmonson County; he was a prominent and wealthy farmer. After marriage Mr. Jackson located on 100 acres of fine land in a good state of cultivation. He cast his first presidential vote for Gen. Scott, but since the war has voted the Democratic ticket.
