ELI HOWELL, railway policeman for the Louisville & Nashville Railroad, at Bowling Green, is a native of Simpson County, Ky., born in 1819. At six years of age he was put to live with Dudley Howell, an uncle, and with him remained until twenty-one years old. He was reared on the farm and attended the pioneer schools of Simpson County. March 4, 1841, he came to Bowling Green, and here has since resided. On coming to this city, he erected the Bowling Green Flouring-mill, and continued to conduct this mill for three years, and then sold the enterprise. He has been connected with the Louisville & Nashville Railroad for three years, at the depot of this place. The marriage of Mr. Howell was solemnized in 1841, with Eleanor S. Claypool, a native of Kentucky. To this marriage were born six children, as follows: Eliza, John C., Henry B., Dudley F., Daniel and Sidney. Mrs. Howell died in 1872, and the next year our subject married Mrs. Martha Garredstein. He is a Democrat, a Mason and a member of the Baptist Church, of which his wife is also a member.
