Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 3rd ed., 1886. Warren County. J. F. HENDRICK, dental surgeon, was born in Warren County, Ky., in 1845. He is a son of John R. and Margaret M. (Lewis) Hendrick, and is of English origin. The father was born in Virginia in 1803, and the mother in Warren County, Ky., in 1804. The immigration of the Hendrick family to Kentucky was in 1818. John R. Hendrick died in 1858; his widow died July 28, 1883. The Hendrick family is one of the oldest and most prominent of the county. The paternal grandfather of Dr. Hendrick, John Hendrick, was a Virginian. His maternal grandfather was Rev. Isaac O. Lewis, a native of North Carolina, who came to this State some time in the last century. He was a preacher in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church; was one of the able, distinguished pioneer ministers and citizens of Warren County, and physically was an extraordinary man, weighing 420 pounds. His death occurred in 1954. Dr. Hendrick was reared on the farm and during the winter had the advantages of the common schools, where he received a fair education. At eighteen years of age he began the study of dentistry under Dr. N. P. Allen, at Smith's Grove, Ky.; in 1856 he located at Scottsville, Allen County, and began the practice of his profession; remained there three years, and then removed to Logan County, where he remained until 1871; then came to Bowling Green, and here has since resided, and is the oldest dentist in the city. The marriage of Dr. Hendrick was solemnized April 25, 1871, with Miss Lucinda J. Settle, of Scottsville, Ky., daughter of Thomas J. Settle. Their children are as follows: Alma Greenleaf, Thomas Tilden, Wilbur Orelton and Iles Mclain. Dr. Hendrick is a Democrat; a member of the Masonic fraternity, an elder in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church; his wife is a member of the Baptist church. Until recently Dr. Hendrick had three brothers ministers in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church: Revs. J. H. and W. R. Hendrick are now located in Texas; Rev. I. O., who for many years was a minister in the same church, died in Bowling Green, April 7, 1885. He also has two sisters, Mrs. Sarah J. Jackson, widow of Charles Jackson, and Mrs. Annie E. Glenn, wife of M. A. Glenn, of Columbus, Ohio. The entire family are Christians. Parents and children will unite and constitute an unbroken family in heaven.
