CHARLES McFADDEN, when six years old, lost his father by death and his
mother when he was seventeen.  The parents were Andrew and Margaret
McFadden, the mother coming to Lawrence County, Indiana about 1838. 
Charles was born in South Carolina September 21, 1834, and remained with
his mother until her death, receiving little education.  August 7, 1862,
he married Sarah, daughter of Richard and Elizabeth Bivins, who has born
him four children:  Mary, Kate, Lizzie and Grace.  Mr. McFadden has been
successful in his occupation of farming and owns a farm of 170 acres.  In
politics he is a Democrat.  Richard Bivins, father of Mrs. McFadden, was
born January 7, 1799 in Frederick County, Maryland.  He was taken to
Kentucky at the age of three years, and remained there until twenty-eight,
when he came to Lawrence County.  The McFaddens are well known and
respected.
