SARLLS was born in Ghent, Carroll Co., Ky., January 14, 1835, and is a son of Richard and Julia (Evertson) Sarlls, natives of New York, and of English descent. He abandoned the business in 1879, and established the Milton Free Press, now a prosperous and popular Democratic weekly. September 15, 1858, he married Miss Martha C. Buchanan, daughter of Isaac T. Buchanan, of Trimble County. Mr. Sarlls was elected justice of the peace in 1866, and served in that capacity eighteen years. He was appointed postmaster soon after the event of President Cleveland's administration, and resigned his judicial office to assume that of postmaster.
