ADAM PIERCE was born in Washington County, Ky., February 6, 1811, the fifth of six children born to John and Jane (Graves) Pierce. John Pierce was born in New Jersey, but his wife was a native of Virginia, and both were early settlers of Kentucky. Our subject was quite young when he came to Trimble County and located where he now resides, near Bedford. He married, in 1837, Maria, daughter of William Parks of Lincoln County, and five children were born to their union: Mary, William, Kittie, Amanda, Emma and James. Mrs. Pierce died in 1881, and later our subject married Mattie O. Spilman, daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Spilman, of Henry County, Ky. Two children have blessed this union: Carlos and Ollie N. Mr. Pierce and family are members of the Christian Church. He owns 150 acres of land, and is engaged in farming and stock raising. Politically he is a Democrat.
