MORGAN was born in Bedford, Trimble Co., Ky., October 30, 1854, the eldest of thirteen children born to John J. and Mary F. (Ewing) Morgan. He was reared on the farm, and educated at the common schools. He followed farming until 1883, at which time he engaged in the mercantile business at the place known as Abbott P. O., in Trimble County, where he still has a good business under the management of his brother, Gus M. Morgan. In April, 1887, he started his present business at Houston's Landing on the Ohio River, where he carries a large stock of goods. He started in life with a small capital, but is now in a very good financial condition. May 20, 1880, he married Miss Laura Jennings, a daughter of Daniel and Lucy Jennings, of Trimble County. Two children blessed their union: Claude V. and John J. Mr. Morgan is a Master Mason. Politically he is a Democrat.
