MOFFETT was born in Woodford County, Ky., October 10, 1814, a son of Robert Moffett, a native of Virginia but an early settler in Woodford County. Robert married Elizabeth Adams, July 7, 1803. She was a native of Woodford, but a member of the Virginia family of that name. They had a family of five sons and five daughters: Lucinda H., Robert A., William A., Sarah B., John H., Francis H., Eliza J., Newton L., Susan C. and Mary E. The family moved to Trimble County in 1832, and settled where our subject now resides. The father died March 10, 1841, and the mother July 17, 1864. The former served in the war of 1812. Our subject was about seventeen years of age when he came to Trimble County. He was reared on a farm, and on arriving at manhood chose farming as his vocation, which he has since followed, and of late has paid considerable attention to fruit growing. He has about 500 acres of land with about 195 acres in peach orchard. He is also engaged in breeding fine horses. February 11, 1852, he married Miss Nancy Ashby, a daughter of Benjamin C. and Mary (King) Ashby, natives of Kentucky. Four children were born to this union: Mary A., Bettie, Hallie Z. and Susan, all of whom are living. The family are active members of the Christian Church and rank among the best citizens of Trimble County. Mr. Moffett is a member of the I.O.O.F and politically is a Democrat.
