Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Trimble Co. JAMES CRAWFORD, assessor of Trimble County, was born in Owen County, Ky., May 3, 1854, the fifth of eight children born to William H. and Elizabeth (Wood) Crawford. William H. Crawford was born in Mercer County, Ky., and was a son of James and Juda Crawford, natives of Virginia, but among the first families who settled in Mercer County. They afterward moved to Owen County, Ky., where they both died. Elizabeth Wood was born in Mercer County, a daughter of David Wood, an early settler in that county, but a native of Virginia. He afterward moved to Carroll County, Ky., where he lived and died. William H. Crawford was brought up on the farm, and received only a common-school education, but was a man who read a great deal, and was of more than average ability. He moved to Owen County when a boy, and there remained until 1886, when he moved to Trimble County and settled where our subject now resides, a few miles south of Milton on the Madison and Bedford Turnpike. He married about 1849, and reared a family who now rank among the best citizens of Trimble County. He died February 23, 1881, but his widow is still living. James Crawford was reared on the farm, and received a very good education in the graded schools. In 1874 he commenced school teaching, and has followed the same successfully ever since. In August 1886, he was elected assessor of Trimble County, and is the present incumbent of that office, and is also secretary of the Madison and Bedford Turnpike Company. Politically he is a Democrat. Crawford Wood = Owen-KY Mercer-KY Owen-KY Carroll-KY VA http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygenweb/kybiog/trimble/crawford.j.txt
