Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Trimble Co. HIRAM F. COFFIN, SR., fruit grower, Trimble County, was born in Boone County, Ky., April 13, 1824, the fourth of five children born to Christopher and Rebecca (Swain) Coffin. He was reared on the farm, and in early life worked at the cooper's trade. He went to Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1854, where he clerked for C. B. Coffin in the grocery business. There he remained until 1861, when he moved to Trimble County, joined his brother, Mark, and has since been engaged in farming, fruit growing, and the nursery business. He married, December 2, 1862, Elizabeth Kendall, daughter of James and Mary (Dolahi) Kendall, of Boone County. To this union four children were born: Charles B., James W., Christopher W. and Mollie. Charles B. is deceased. Mr. Coffin has half interest in a fine farm of 300 acres, in what is widely known as Coffin's Nursery.
