SHOEMAKER was born November 30, 1813, in Adams County, Ohio, and is a son of Solomon and Nancy (Carr) Shoemaker; the former was born in Virginia, the latter in Ireland. Our subject was reared on his father's farm, where he remained till [sic] the age of twenty-one; he then removed to the Cumberland Iron Works; there worked five years. In 1839 he came to Trigg County, engaged in agricultural pursuits till [sic] 1878, when he was elected Jailer; he is now serving on his second term; he also held the office of Coroner four years. He was married, December 28, 1835, to Malinda Griffin, of Tennessee, Stewart County; she died in January, 1870, aged fifty-six; they had twelve children, seven living--three sons and four daughters. His second marriage was in November, 1870, to Eliza Pallomor, of Trigg County; four daughters bless this union.
