W. B. SHELTON, by occupation a physician, was born in Todd County, Ky.,
October 20, 1843, and is a son of Crispin and Polly B. (Dodd) Shelton, both
natives of Kentucky--the former of Scotch-Irish and the latter of Irish
descent.  Crispin Shelton was born August 3, 1807, and his wife was born
in 1819.  In youth he learned the carpenter's and cooper's trades and
followed them in connection with farming, his principal occupation.  He
has held the office of Jailor [sic] of Todd County, and he and wife are
devoted members of the Christian Church.  W. B. Shelton was reared and
educated in his native county, and in 1865, began the study of medicine at
Hamilton, Ill.  He began the practice of medicine in Greenville, Bond Co.,
Ill., and was there some two years.  He then went to Stanton, in the same
State, and remained there some eight years.  He then returned to Todd
County, Ky., and located in Sharon Grove, where he is doing a leading
practice.  He was married November 28, 1872, to Alice, daughter of Selby
Snell, of Illinois; four children bless their union: Tillie Bell, Harry
Eugene, Charley Crispin and Fanny Jane; all are living but Harry Eugene.
The Doctor was in the Federal Army, in the Eighth Kentucky Cavalry,
Company D, under Bristow.  He is a member of the A. F. & A. M., No. 587,
at Daysville, and the I.O.O.F., No. 67, at Trout's Cross Roads.  He and
lady are consistent members of the Christian Church.  He is a Republican
in politics and one of the leading physicians and citizens of the county.
