Kentucky: A History of the State. Perrin, Battle & Kniffin, 6th ed.,1887, Spencer Co. J.M. HEADY, a native of Spencer County, Ky., was born November 24, 1836. His father, Reason Heady, was a farmer, and married Ann Shelburne. Shortly before his death he removed to Louisville, where he died in 1848. J.M. Heady, at the age of sixteen, learned the painter's trade, which he followed until 1861, when the war interrupted his business. In 1863 he began the saddle and harness business at Van Dyke's mill, but afterward moved to Wilsonville, where he carried on the same business until 1867, when he engaged in general merchandising, which he still follows, and where he has filled the office of postmaster since 1884. In January, 1856, he married Susan M. Boston, daughter of Jesse and Nancy (Collier) Boston, of Spencer County, but descended from Maryland people. Four children resulted from this union: John B., Mary, Reason J. and one now deceased. Mr. and Mrs. Heady are members of the Baptist Church at Elk Creek.
