BECKHAM, M.D., was born in Spencer County, Ky., September 25, 1825, and is a son of James W. and Nancy (Murphy) Beckham, the former a native of Culpeper County, Va., and of English descent, and the latter born in Shelby County, Ky., and of Irish extraction. Beverly M. Beckham was reared on the home farm, and received his early education in Spencer County; he read medicine under Dr. James Heady, and in 1846 entered the medical department of the University of St. Louis, from which he graduated in 1850 and began practice in Taylorsville, whence, in 1855, he removed to Clay Village, Shelby County, and then, in 1867, to Shelbyville, where he still controls a very lucrative practice. In September, 1855, he married Miss Mary E. Carpenter, of Delaware, Ohio, who has borne him two children: Mary E. and Carrie W. The Doctor is a member of the Masonic order.
