Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Shelby Co. DANIEL S. SLAUGHTER, M. D., was born in Nelson County, Ky., January 28, 1822, and is a son of Phillip C. and Sallie (Slaughter) Slaughter, natives respectively of Nelson County and Culpeper County, Va. The Slaughters were followers of William the Conquerer of England, and had conferred upon them by that monarch large landed estates. Daniel S. Slaughter graduated from St. Joseph College, Bardstown, in 1842, and then began the study of medicine under his uncle, Harry Slaughter, at Elizabethtown. In 1844 he entered the medical department of the Louisville University, graduated the following year, and in 1854 the Kentucky School of Medicine conferred upon him the honary degree of M. D. He began practice at Owensboro and in December, 1846, settled in Shelbyville, and has since been in practice in Shelby and adjoining counties. In November, 1855, he married Miss Elmina Johnson, of Franklin, St Mary's Parish, La., and has had born to him two children: Sarah E., wife of Judge John H. Williams, of Maysville, Mo., and Frank, of Denver, Col. The Doctor is a member of the Shelby County Medical Society and of the Baptist Church.
