RITTER is a native of Shelby County, Ky., born April 29, 1857, the only son of John H. and Sarah Ann (Williams) Ritter. His father was born in Shelby County, September 5, 1831, and is a farmer. His mother was born July 18, 1839, and died November 27, 1859. His paternal grandfather was also a native of Kentucky, and died about 1863. Our subject was reared on the farm, and received a good English education in the common schools of Shelby County. At the age of eighteen he began teaching school, which profession he followed seven years, when he engaged in agricultural pursuits. He was united in marriage May 15, 1878, to Ada B. Lisby, an estimable lady of Shelby County. One son blessed their union, Delbert, born November 28, 1883. Mr. Ritter is a member of the Missionary Baptist Church, and in politics a Republican.
