Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Shelby Co. GEORGE W. RAMSEY (deceased) was a native of Franklin County, Ky., born in 1810, and of Virginian descent. He removed to Shelbyville, married Miss Mary A. Martin, daughter of Isaiah Martin, and carried on the merchant-tailoring business until his death in September 1857. His two sons, John J. and Thomas J., in 1874 formed a copartnership under the firm name of Ramsey Bros., and engaged in the hardware trade at Shelbyville. They carry a large line of stoves and farm machinery, as well as a full assortment of builders' and shelf hardware, and are doing a prosperous business. John J. Ramsey was born in 1846, was educated at Shelby College and married Miss Lula Offutt. Thomas J. Ramsey was born December 18, 1848, was also educated at Shelby County, and married Miss Susie A.
