BENJAMIN QUINN MORTON was born in Harrison County, Ky., September 20, 1811,
the third of a family of six sons and six daughters born to James and
Durandy (Quinn) Morton.  His father was a native of Madison County, Ky.,
born May 3, 1787, was a well-to-do farmer, a member of the Baptist Church,
one of the best citizens of his community, and died in Virginia July 21,
1846.  His mother was a native of Virginia, born May 14, 1788, came to
Kentucky when young and settled in Madison County, where she died July 20,
1851, a member of the Baptist Church, and a devout Christian. Our subject's
paternal grandfather, Benjamin Morton, was a native of Virginia, came to
Kentucky at an early date, and was one of the first settlers of Madison
County.  He died about March, 1838.  Benjamin Q. Morton was reared on the
farm, and educated at the schools of Shelby County.  In June, 1840, he
married Rhoda Perkins, a native of Shelby County, and an estimable lady,
who died June 1, 1842.  April 6, 1843, he married Catherine Heddern, of
Shelby County, and two sons and four daughters blessed their union:
Joseph B., Isaac M. (died May 7, 1862), Sarah A. (died May 9, 1862),
Charity (died August 15, 1872), Durandy F. and Ruth.  Mrs. Morton died
March 12, 1877.  Mr. Morton is a prominent member of the Baptist Church.
Politically he was formerly an old line Whig, but since the war has been a
Republican.  He has a well cultivated farm of 160 acres, which he
successfully manages, and is one of Shelby County's prominent citizens.
