MEEKS was born in Shelby County, February 9, 1808, the only son in a family of three children born to John and Polly (Hardman) Meeks. His parents were natives of Kentucky, and were members of the Missionary Baptist Church. His maternal grandfather was a native of Pennsylvania. Our subject's early life was devoted to the farm and his education acquired in the common schools. He was united in marriage with Lucinda Clark, and three sons and three daughters blessed their union: John W., Mary A., Catherine E., Lucius M., Charles E. and Anna E. Mr. Meeks owns a well cultivated farm of 193 acres, near the Shelbyville and Mount Eden Turnpike. He is a member of the Missionary Baptist Church, and politically a Democrat.
