Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Shelby Co. J. J. LONG, a farmer, was born in Shelby County, May 3, 1833, and is a son of Col. J. and Lucy (Johnson) Long. His father was born in Virginia, and was a son of William Long, who served in the war of the Revolution. Our subject received a good common-school education, finished at the Kentucky Military Institute, and has been engaged in farming and stock raising all his life, making a specialty of Shorthorn cattle. He married in 1861 Sallie Flood, of Shelby County, Ky., daughter of William flood. Mrs. Long died in 1865, and in 1867 Mr. Long married Miss Annie Lee, of Owensboro, Ky., daughter of John and Martha (Rice) Lee. Seven children were born to this union: Lee, Lawrence, Leslie, Jerry, Joe, Harry B. and Dallas. Mrs. long is a member of the Missionary Baptist Church.
