Presly Carr Lane was for many years a member of the Pennsylvania Assembly; was Speaker of the House and a Senator from Fayette County. Prior to 1790 he moved to Shelby County, Kentucky, which he also represented in the Legislature for several terms; died there. Married Sallie, daughter of Richard Stephenson II, and had Richard William Carr, George W., Anne, Henry, James Stephenson, Louisa, Pressly Carr, John and Eliza. Dr. William Carr Lane, the second son, was the first Mayor of St. Louis, from 1821 to 1829. In 1852 he was appointed Governor of New Mexico by Fillmore. He died in St. Louis in 1863. Francis Adams Lane, the last grandson of P. C. Lane now (1896) resides at St. Louis. One of the descendants named Winlock is now (1896) first assistant to the President of the Smithsonian Institute.
